About the course
When one plays on the field for the first time, there is usually a certain level of expectation. Particularly exhilarating is the driveway to the links at County Louth, or Baltray, named after the local fishing village. This is a course that has remained relatively anonymous, except to those who know their way around it. It is one of Ireland’s secrets.
County Louth Golf Club was founded in 1892, but Tom Simpson and Molly Gourlay did not design the present course until 1938. In 2003 Tom Mackenzie made some minor changes to the layout, most notably adding new tees, which stretched the yards to over 7,000 yards.
