About the course
With majestic views of the wild Atlantic Ocean and the nearby Reeks Mountains, home to Ireland’s highest mountain, Dooks Golf Links offers both a visual treat on the edge of Dingle Bay and a technical challenge for all golfers.
Dooks Golf Club is one of the most environmentally friendly golf courses in the world. Everything is in harmony with its surroundings – it’s a wonderful place to play golf. The course is magically located on a promontory on the south side of Dingle Bay. The MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range watches over the south-east, and the sandy peninsulas of Rossbehy and Inch Point lie in the foreground to the north and west. The view is simply breathtaking.
Officers of the Royal Horse Artillery laid out a short nine-hole course here in 1889 and introduced golf to the local gentry. This made Dooks the oldest golf course in Kerry. It was obviously a challenge to agree on a name – initially the club was called Caragh and Dooks, then Glenbeigh, then Dooks and Caragh and finally they settled on the plain and simple – Dooks. Around 1900 the course was extended to 18 holes, but due to rising costs the club soon reverted to nine holes.
