About the course
The magnificent Jacobean-style mansion on the Bearwood estate reminds us of what it must have been like to be a wealthy 19th century English aristocrat. This fabulous Victorian house was built for John Walter, who was the founder of The Times newspaper. The course at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club first opened for play in 1996 and Martin Hawtree designed it to look as grown-up as John Walter designed his mansion.
Bearwood Lakes is an exciting course that meanders through the mature trees of the former Bearwood Estate. It is a golf course with skillfully designed and cleverly managed holes. It is certainly one of the best new courses to be built and according to Golf Links Magazine, Bearwood Lakes is “polished to perfection”. The Bearwood course is immaculately maintained and members have amazing playing surfaces to enjoy all year round.
Hawtree has skilfully integrated the course into the surrounding countryside and the beautiful mature trees add to the many attractive features. There isn’t a single weak hole on the Bearwood Lakes course – each one will make you think. The most memorable are the six holes located around natural lakes that span over 50 acres.
