About the course
Formby is the prettiest of the eight top links courses located between the seaside town of St Annes and the city of Liverpool. It is lined on three sides with pine trees, which give the links a decidedly softer, heathery feel. Formby Golf Club is set in 470 acres of Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is one of the few places in England where you can spot the local red squirrel.
Formby Golf Club was founded in 1884 and was originally a nine-hole course for members. In 1912 Willie Park Junior established the original eighteen-hole course, which was modified by James Braid in 1922 and Harry Colt in 1933. More recently, in the 1980s, Donald Steel modified the course due to coastal erosion and expanded its yards. Today’s layout now measures more than 7,000 yards from the tips.
