About the course
We have categorized Parkstone Golf Club as a coastal heathland. It is definitely not a traditional links course and is not too far inland. It is an unusual and unique course, situated on a beautiful sandy stretch of undulating heathland and offering spectacular views over Poole Bay and Poole Harbour. The fairways are lined with magnificent pines and heather and the picture is particularly pretty in spring when the rhododendrons are in full bloom.
The land was originally part of Lord Wimborne’s Canford estate, which stretched from Wimbourne to Sandbanks, a natural peninsula jutting out into the sea at the entrance to Poole Harbour. The Water Company built two reservoirs and a pumping station here. Little did they know that the water would be useful for irrigating the new golf course that Willie Park Junior laid out in 1909. In 1932 the great revisionist James Braid appeared on the scene and Parkstone was subsequently extended and modified.
