About the course
It was difficult to decide exactly where to place Prince’s Golf Club, as there are 27 holes in three nine-hole circuits, named Himalayas, Dunes and Shore. We have since made up our minds and agreed that the Shore and Dunes loops make the best 18-hole combination, but only just. We have recently added a new separate website for Himalayas so as not to do any of the three circuits a disservice.
At the turn of the 20th century it was decided that a new links would be built at Sandwich, adjacent to the Royal St George’s course. The new Prince’s Golf Club was to welcome ladies, juniors and men. Charles Hutchings and Percy Lucas laid out the course on land donated by the Earl of Guildford. The eighteen-hole course of nearly 7,000 yards opened in 1907.
