About the course
Swinley Forest is an enchanting golf course on the famous Surrey/Berkshire sand belt. A few decades ago it was a club frozen in time, exclusive, unusual and utterly eccentric. One commentator put it this way, “The inescapable impression is that this place fell asleep many years ago and slumbered for decades as the Rip Van Winkle of golf clubs.”
In fact, you would hardly describe it as a regular golf club; it had no captain and, despite being in existence for nearly 100 years, had little history except in the minds of its members. In the 1990s, however, scorecards were printed, holes were allocated par and competitions were introduced for prominent Swinley members.
