About the course
Worplesdon Golf Club is one of the nicest courses in Surrey with heathland and is probably the best of the trio of ‘W’s (the other two being West Hill and Woking); all three courses are virtually adjacent to each other. John Abercromby’s initial design dates from 1908; the greens and bunkers were built by Willie Park Junior.
It’s not a long course, measuring just under 6500 yards, but it’s challenging enough for most and the accuracy of the drive is more important than the length. The front nine is played in almost perfectly undulating terrain, so expect some awkward postures. The back nine, however, is set on relatively flat terrain, but watch out for the greens as they are often fast with subtle borrows and interesting undulations.
