The K Club

About the course

In 2006, the K Club hosted Ryder Cup matches between the USA and Europe. The team captains were Tom Lehman (USA) and Ian Woosnam (Europe). The first Ryder Cup, held in Ireland, turned into a record-breaking event and a deeply emotional affair as Darren Clarke returned to the golfing scene for the first time since the death of his wife Heather.

The K Club, or Kildare Country Club if you want the full name, is set in 550 acres of rolling County Kildare countryside. It is the most famous golf resort in Ireland.

The North Course, or Palmer Ryder Cup Course, or rather “Palmer North” as it is now called, was designed by Arnold Palmer and opened for play in 1991. The River Liffey meanders through the entire property and becomes dangerous on a number of holes, especially on the eighth hole where it flows all the way down the left side of the fairway.
