The legendary Old Course at St Andrews has been officially confirmed as the venue for the 2027 Open Championship. The tournament will take place from 15–18 July 2027, continuing the five-year cycle that has been in place since 1990 with only rare exceptions.

History & Anniversary

• It will be the 31st time The Open has been held at St Andrews, dating back to 1873.
• The championship also marks the 100th anniversary of Bobby Jones’ iconic 1927 victory at St Andrews.
• Most recently, in 2022, record crowds of 290,000 watched Cameron Smith capture the Claret Jug over Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young.

Legendary Champions at the Old Course

The Old Course, known as the “Home of Golf,” has crowned some of the greatest players in history:

• Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods each won The Open here twice.
• Seve Ballesteros triumphed in 1984, Sir Nick Faldo in 1990.
• As Nicklaus famously said: “If you’re going to be a player that’s remembered, you must win at St Andrews.”

Modern Challenges

With ever-increasing driving distances, questions remain about whether the Old Course can still stand up to the modern game. The R&A plans to introduce shorter-flight golf balls in 2028, but St Andrews remains unmatched for history, prestige, and atmosphere.
